epl: arsenal move back up to second

Mikel Arteta has played down Arsenal’s title hopes despite their 3-1 win over Brentford this morning moving them up to second in the Premier League standings.

The Gunners boss says the fate of the title race is not in their hands, adding that they have to take things one match at a time.

The win moved Arsenal to within six points of leaders Liverpool, although the Reds have a game in hand.

Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram have been identified as possible summer replacements for Darwin Nunez at Liverpool.

This, as Nunez continues to struggle with the Anfield club, netting just four goals so far this campaign.

-

In other developments…Man United are reportedly eyeing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres this month in a bid to save their season, with the deal expected to cost some 80 million pounds.

-

The door is still open for Datuk Azizulhasni Awang to join the Podium Program.

The National Sports Council says the 37-year-old track cyclist can join at a later date once he has decided on whether to continue with his career.

The two-time Olympic medalist has yet to confirm his plans for the future despite earlier hinting at retirement.

-

And the BAM is hoping to finalise its new men’s doubles head coach in two weeks’ time, ahead of the impending exit of Tan Bin Shen after four years of service.
