Arsenal have taken a massive step towards the Champions League quarterfinals, after a thumping 7-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their last-16 tie this morning.

This is the Gunners’ biggest win away from home in the competition…and also the first time they’ve scored seven goals under manager Mikel Arteta.

In other last-16 first leg results, Brahim Diaz netted a superb solo winner to help Real Madrid edge out their neighbours Atletico 2-1.

Aston Villa defeated Brugge 3-1.

While Borussia Dortmund and Lille played to a 1-1 draw.

-

Closer to home, JDT held Buriram United to a goalless draw in the first leg of their AFC Champions League Elite last-16 tie in Thailand.

-

In other developments, Liverpool are reportedly considering joining Barcelona in the race to sign AC Milan winger Rafael Leao.

-

PSG are said to be ready to offer as many as three of its players plus cash to sign Newcastle’s in-demand forward Alexander Isak.

-

Malaysia’s Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee as well as Yap Roy King-Wan Arif Wan Junaidi are both safely through to the second round of the women’s and men’s doubles events respectively, at the Orleans Badminton Masters.

-

And, Malaysia’s Nor Farah Ain is now the number one women’s lawn bowls player in the world, after topping the latest global rankings.
