Painful Exit For Shah Firdaus in Paris

Aug 12, 2024

painful exit for shah firdaus in paris

Track cyclist Mohamad Shah Firdaus Sahrom has missed out on a keirin medal at the Olympics, after a collision in the final.

He was within sight of a possible bronze, when he was taken out by a rider from Japan.

Shah says he’s hugely disappointed with the result, but accepts that its part of the unpredictable nature of the Keirin event.

For the record, Shah Firdaus is only the third Malaysian track cyclist to ride in an Olympic final, after Josiah Ng and Datuk Azizulhasni Awang.

-

Meanwhile, two-time Olympic medalist Datuk Azizulhasni Awang says he’s ready to call time on his long and illustrious career.

The 36-year-old track cyclist adds that he has no hesitation about stepping down, since we have a new generation of riders to take over.

This comes after the Pocket Rocketman’s latest outing at the Games ended in a disappointing disqualification in the Keirin heats.

-

Overall, Malaysia finished the Paris Olympics with two bronze medals through Lee Zii Jia and Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik.

It leaves us 80th in the medal table.

The USA finished top of the standings with 40 gold medals, ahead of China, Japan, Australia and France.

-

In other developments, Arne Slot has recorded his first win at Anfield as new Liverpool boss…after a 4-1 friendly win over Sevilla.

-

And in Malaysian Super League action…Kuching City and Penang played out a 2-2 draw…while PDRM defeated Negeri Sembilan FC 2-1.
