Liverpool's fightback fizzles out

Mar 16, 2023

liverpool's fightback fizzles out

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits his side were not good enough to pull off a heroic comeback against Real Madrid in the Champions League this morning.

The Reds - who lost 5-2 in the first leg of the last-16 - lost to Los Blancos again...going down 1-nil in the return leg in Spain, to exit 6-2 on aggregate.

Klopp concedes that Real were simply the better team over most of both legs.

Meanwhile, Karim Benzema - who scored the only goal of the game this morning - has taken his Champions League tally to 89.

The striker has now netted eight goals in seven appearances against EPL teams since the beginning of last season.

Elsewhere, in another last-16 second leg tie Napoli cruised to a 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, for a 5-0 victory on aggregate.

In this morning's EPL action, an early first half goal saw Brighton edge Crystal Palace 1-0, while Southampton fell to a 2-0 defeat to Brentford.

And Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik... Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai... as well as Liew Daren were all knocked out by their respective opponents in the first round of the All England Badminton Championship.

Lee Zii Jia was the only Malaysian rep to enjoy a win yesterday, beating his opponent from Thailand in straight sets.
