Barcelona Are Crowned La Liga Champions

May 16, 2025

barcelona are crowned la liga champions

Barcelona have clinched their 28th La Liga title, after a 2-0 win over local rivals Espanyol this morning.

It leaves them with an unassailable lead over closest rivals Real Madrid, with two matches still to play.

It also caps a remarkable campaign for Barca boss Hansi Flick, whose side has now won the league, Copa Del Rey and Spanish Super Cup titles in his first season in charge.

-

Separately, Real Madrid are set to sign Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen after agreeing to pay the defender’s 50 million pounds release clause.

The 20-year-old is said to be close to agreeing personal terms with the La Liga side, having earlier turned down several offers to remain in the Premier League.

Gianni Infantino is refusing to rule out having a 64-team World Cup for the 2030 edition.

The FIFA president says the proposal by the South American confederation should at least be considered.

It comes amid widespread criticism of the expansion, for fear that it would dilute the competition, and lead to a drop in the overall quality of play.

Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik will take on Wan Arif Junaidi and Yap Roy King, in an all-Malaysian men’s doubles quarterfinal at the Thailand Badminton Open today.

Compatriots Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah, meanwhile, are up against opponents from China for a place in the women’s doubles semis.

-

Malaysia have won the regu event at the Sepaktakraw Asian Cup, with a straight sets win over bitter rivals Thailand in the final.

This is the second victory for the national squad, who also won the quadrant event earlier this week.
