We've Lost Our Best Commonwealth Games Events

Oct 22, 2024

we've lost our best commonwealth games events

Malaysia could miss out on several potential medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

This is after badminton, diving and squash were dropped from the competition, with these events contributing 10 of our medals at the 2022 Games in Birmingham.

Glasgow has been announced as the 2026 host, after Victoria, Australia gave up hosting duties due to rising costs.

Organisers announced a scaled-down programme of just 10 sports including athletics, track cycling, swimming, weightlifting and lawn bowls.

The 2027 SEA Games will go ahead as planned, despite Sabah's withdrawal as one of the co-hosts.

According to the Youth and Sports Ministry, it will proceed at the three remaining venues; namely KL, Penang and Sarawak.

It adds that it has already invited other states to participate, but so far they have not declared their interest.

German club Bayer Leverkusen are preparing to lose boss Xabi Alonso next summer.

The highly rated Spanish coach has been linked with Real Madrid, while Man City could also make a move for him if Pep Guardiola decides to leave.

--

Italian football legend Francesco Totti has hinted that he could come out of retirement at the age of 48, after receiving offers from three Serie A clubs!

Totti hung up his boots in 2017, after playing 786th matches for his boyhood club Roma.
