Newcastle United have taken a slim advantage in the EFL Cup semifinals, after a 1-0 win over Southampton in the first leg this morning.

Midfielder Joelinton scored the only goal of the game in the second half.

This leaves the Magpies as favourites to reach their first ever domestic cup final since 1999.

Fernando Santos has been named as manager for the Poland national team, just a month after leaving Portugal, in the wake of their World Cup disappointment.

-

Third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas has made the semifinals of the Australian Tennis Open, after a straight-sets win over his opponent from the Czech Republic.

Malaysian men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have moved up one spot to a career-high second place, in the latest World Badminton rankings.

Their rise was thanks in part to their achievement at the recent Indian Open, where they emerged as runners up.

Mw, Lee Zii Jia has fallen two spots to number 4 in the men’s singles rankings, after suffering back-to-back early exits at the Malaysian and Indian Opens.
