Alonso nearly penalised in last F1 race
Nov 26, 2018
The FIA says Fernando Alonso was lucky not to have been slapped with a major penalty, in his last-ever F1 race.
The McLaren driver had cut the track three times in the season-ending Abu Dhabi GP, in an attempt to finish the race in the top ten.
Race stewards added a total of 15 seconds to his race time over the offences, but ultimately, it did not affect his 11th-placed finish.
The FIA's racing director says theoretically, Alonso could have been disqualified for what he did, but it "wouldn't have been nice" to do so on his final outing.
