Arsenal have appointed their former captain Mikel Arteta as head coach on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Arteta, who is currently Man City's assistant boss, won the FA Cup twice in a five-year career with the Gunners and succeeds fellow Spaniard Unai Emery, who was sacked last month.

He will take over as Gunners boss tomorrow, leaving Freddie Ljungberg in interim charge for the trip to Everton in the Premier League tonight.

Chelsea are reportedly planning a 44 million pound offer for Real Madrid attacker Isco at the end of the campaign.

Isco has been consistently linked with a move away from the Bernabeu over the last year or so, eventhough he recently worked his way back into favour after recovering from injury.

The Blues recently had their FIFA-imposed transfer suspension lifted and are expected to be active in the January transfer window.
