Chong Wei named Malaysia's flag bearer for Olympics opening ceremony

Jun 03, 2016

Datuk Lee Chong Wei has been named as Malaysia's flag bearer for the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics on 5th August.

The Olympic Council of Malaysia decided to give the honour to Chong Wei over diver Pandelela Rinong, as the Malaysian shuttler is unlikely to compete in a 5th Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.

Separately, Chong Wei beat Hong Kong's Angus Ng to reach the quarter-finals of the Indonesia badminton Open.

Earlier in the day, women's doubles Vivian Hoo / Woon Khe Wei and men's doubles Goh V Shem / Tan Wee Kiong also reached the last 8.
