Fernando Torres announces retirement

Jun 21, 2019

Fernando Torres has announced his retirement from football.

The 35-year-old had 2 spells at his boyhood club, Atletico Madrid, while he also played for Liverpool, Chelsea, AC Milan and Japan's Sagan Tosu.

Throughout his club career, Torres won the Champions League once, and has Europa League winners medals.

He also helped Spain win the World Cup in 2010, and the European Championship in 2008 and 2012.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted at an "ambitious" transfer programme this summer, to remain competitive next season.

While the Reds won a 6th Champions League title last season, they missed out on the EPL crown to Man City by just one point.

Klopp is believed to be eyeing a number of players, including Ousmane Dembele of Barcelona.

Maurizio Sarri has taken a swipe at former club Chelsea, after being unveiled as Juventus's new head coach.

Sarri, who signed a 3-year deal at Juve, described his appointment as a huge step in his career.

This is compared to Chelsea, which he said has an 'inferior history'.

He spent the past 12 months at Stamford Bridge, where he won the Europa League -- the first trophy of his career.
