KBS says no Olympic medals target yet

Jun 04, 2020

The Youth and Sports Ministry has yet to set a medals target for next year’s Tokyo Olympics, with our athletes’ preparations for the Games affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

It says it has identified 36 national athletes expected to qualify for the Games, but the postponement and cancellation of several major sporting events around the world has affected their qualification process.

The Ministry adds that it should be able to see some progress with the start of the Road to Tokyo program this week, but it’s still too soon to set any goal.

As it stands, 12 of our athletes have officially qualified for Tokyo 2020, including gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi and track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang.

Jadon Sancho will not face further action for anti-racism statement

Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho and other Bundesliga players will face no further disciplinary action, after making anti-racism messages following the death of American George Floyd during matches last weekend.

The German FA says no proceedings would take place against Sancho and the three other players, "because of their solidarity and anti-racism statements".

It adds that it will maintain this stance should there be more anti-racism campaigns to mark the violent death of George Floyd on the coming match days.

FIFA rules state that players must not display political statements, but president Gianni Infantino says their actions deserve an applause and not a punishment, adding that everyone must say no to racism and any form of discrimination.
