Xherdan Shaqiri came off the bench to score two quick goals late in the game, to secure three deserved points for the Reds.

Manager Jurgen Klopp told the BBC he couldnt have asked for more from his players.

"Fantastic game! The whole 90-plus minutes we were in control. We played football against an unbelievably physically strong side. We pushed them...we won the balls back... we were aggressive...we were brave. And then Shaq came on and scored these two goals. Its just brilliant!"

As for United, they barely offered an attacking threat, while they've now conceded 29 goals in the league - one more than what they conceded in the entire 2017/2018 campaign.

Even United boss Jose Mourinho told the BBC his side had no answer to their opponents early on.

"I think in the first 20 minutes of the first half (there was) a huge distance. They were much better, much faster, much stronger...everything better than us!"

This morning's result leaves Liverpool at the top of the standings, one point ahead of Man City.

Man United are sixth.
