Lionel Messi was sent off in an international match for the first time in 14 years, as Argentina beat Chile 2-1, in an ill-tempered Copa America third-place playoff.
Chile's Gary Medel was also shown a red card for the altercation with the Barcelona star, which occured before half-time.
Meanwhile, a furious Messi has accused Copa organisers of corruption following the red card.
He skipped the third-place medal ceremony in protest, and claimed the sending off was the result of his harsh criticism of the match officials following Argentina's defeat in the semifinals.
