Modric Scoops Ballon d'Or Award

Dec 04, 2018

Luka Modric has won the Ballon d'Or award, becoming the first player other than Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to win the prestigious honour in more than a decade.

Ronaldo came in second, while Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezman was third.

The victory caps an impressive year for Modric, who was also named the Best Male Player at the FIFA Football Awards.

The Croatian also picked up the Golden Ball award as the Best Player at the recent World Cup.

For the first time ever, a women's Ballon d'Or award was also handed out, with the honour going to Lyon and Norway striker Ada Hergerberg.
