NSC drops 3 sports for its program

Dec 12, 2017

Weightlifting, sepak takraw and taekwondo will be dropped from the National Sports Council’s program for next year's SUKMA in Perak.

The Youth and Sports Ministry says the Council has decided to reduce the number of sports from 19 to 16, for the first time in a decade.

It adds that the 3 sports were chosen due to a decline in performance, doping issues, and power struggles within the associations.

Weightlifting, sepak takraw and taekwondo are expected to manage and run themselves independently, following the decision.
