Only two local reps left at Malaysia Badminton Open

Our national shuttlers had a poor run at the Malaysia Badminton Open yesterday, with several of them crashing out in Round 2.

All of our men's doubles pairs were second round casualties, including Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong, Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi, as well as Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.

Women's singles star Goh Jin Wei is also out.

Only mixed doubles duos Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying, along with Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing have reached the quarterfinals.

UEFA: No Champions League games on weekends

UEFA has dismissed concerns that Champions League fixtures could be staged on weekends.

This, after La Liga's President claimed that UEFA was planning to do so, as well as introduce promotion and relegation in the top-tier European competition.

UEFA are close to finalising plans for a tournament revamp set for 2024, but insists it will not introduce a continental super league, as this will affect domestic competition schedules.

Gareth Southgate honoured at Buckingham Palace

England boss Gareth Southgate has received the OBE award from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace, after leading the Three Lions to the World Cup semifinals in Russia last summer.
