Rafael Nadal reaches 40th career Grand Slam quarterfinal at Flushing Meadows

Sep 03, 2019

Rafael Nadal is through to the last-eight of the US Tennis Open, following a four-set win over Marin Cilic.

This will be the 40th Grand Slam quarterfinal of the Spaniard's career.

Up next for Nadal will be Diego Schwartzman, who pulled off a surprise victory over sixth seed Alexander Zverev.

There was also an upset in the women's draw, where defending champion Naomi Osaka crashed out after losing to Belinda Bencic in their last-16 clash.

Coaches need to face the music too

Our national badminton coaches have been warned that there will be implications, if the national squad fail to hit their two-gold medal target at the SEA Games.

The BAM says it's important that coaches share as much responsibility as the players in the event of a defeat.

It comes amid concerns about the national team's prospects at the SEA Games, following some of our players' poor performances at the recent World Championships.

Meanwhile, the BAM has defended itself against a newspaper report, accusing it of having rigid and old-fashioned structures and management styles.

The badminton governing body admits there is room for improvement, but says the current situation is nowhere as bad as the report made it out to be.
