Man United legend Rio Ferdinand is on the shortlist of candidates to become Manchester United's first sporting director.

The job will focus on player signings and the youth academy, in addition to supporting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's management team.

According to SkySports, United want a candidate who understands how the club works, which makes Ferdinand an attractive candidate.

The former defender spent 12 years as a player at Old Trafford, winning six Premier League titles, the Champions League and two League Cups.
