Steven Gerrard retires from professional football

Nov 25, 2016

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard says he retired from playing because he felt that his body could not cope with the demands of the game.

The 36-year-old has closed the door on a 19-year career, after spending 17 years at his home-town club Liverpool, and winning 9 honours including the 2005 Champions League, before finishing his career with an 18-month stint at LA Galaxy.

Gerrard also made 114 appearances for England, and scored 21 international goals.

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted Gerrard could return to the club in a coaching capacity.
