Syed Saddiq denies alleged statements about Lee Chong Wei

Jul 30, 2018

The Youth and Sports Minister has denied claiming that Datuk Lee Chong Wei pulled out of the Badminton World Championships, because his bank account was frozen in connection to the 1MDB scandal.

Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman also slammed the allegations, saying political ideologies have nothing to do with Chong Wei's integrity as an athlete.

The Muar MP told Berita Harian, he even visited Chong Wei last week, and the national badminton ace is indeed having respiratory issues.

Syed Saddiq wishes him a speedy recovery, and hopes he will be able to return to action soon.

Chong Wei is currently receiving treatment in Taiwan.
