Our shuttlers are through to their first Thomas Cup semifinal since 2016.

This, after the Malaysians pulled off a stunning 3-1 victory over Japan, with Lee Zii Jia, Leong Jun Hao and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin delivering the winning points.

They will next face badminton powerhouses China, who booked their place in the semi after a 3-1 win over defending champions India.

Bayer Leverkusen remain on course for a treble, after taking a 2-0 lead over Roma in the first leg of their Europa League semifinal this morning.

Xabi Alonso’s side have already been crowned Bundesliga champions and are in the German Cup final.

Leverkusen’s win this morning also extends their unbeaten run across all competitions to a remarkable 47 games.

This morning’s other Europa League semi saw Marseille and Atalanta play out a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

Over in the Europa Conference League…Aston Villa suffered a 4-2 defeat at home against Olympiakos in the first leg of their semifinal tie.

In English Premier League action this morning, Chelsea defeated London rivals Tottenham 2-0 courtesy of goals from Trevor Chalobah and Nicolas Jackson.

And, Iraq have defeated Indonesia 2-1 in the third placing playoff at the Under-23 Asian Cup.
