Champions League: Liverpool hold two-goal advantage over Benfica
Apr 06, 2022
Liverpool hold a comfortable lead after the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals this morning.
The Reds defeated Benfica 3-1 in Portugal with Ibrahima Konate and Sadio Mane getting on the scoresheet, before Luis Diaz sealed the win three minutes from time.
The Reds have now won five straight away games in the Champions League, which is a new club record.
Kevin de Bruyne scored the only goal of the game as Man City defeated Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.
A brilliant Phil Foden pass unlocked Atletico’s stubborn defense, to allow de Bruyne to slot in the 70th minute winner.
The Premiership leaders will now take a slender one-goal advantage for the return leg in Madrid next Thursday.
PSG have reportedly made a bid to sign Man United’s Paul Pogba.
However, the French club’s offer is understood to be lower than what United were offering the midfielder.
Sources say Pogba is open to a move to PSG, although he would prefer a return to Juventus.
