Sep 08, 2024

latif romly wins a silver at the paralympics

Abdul Latif Romly has narrowly missed out on a gold medal in the T20 long-jump event at the Paris Paralympics.

He was leading until the very last round…but had to settle for the silver, when his Russian-born rival overtook him for the gold on his final attempt.

Latif, however, still returns as a three-time medalist, having taken the gold in the 2016 and 2020 editions.

-

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s medal hopes will now turn to Jong Yee Khie…who will be competing in the men’s up to 107 kg powerlifting event later today.

-

Man City are reported to have opened contract extension talks with Erling Haaland…whose current deal runs out in 2027.

There are still no details, although sources say the new contract will retain the striker’s nine-figure release clause.

-

In selected Nations League results…England defeated the Republic of Ireland 2-0.

Germany recorded a comfortable 5-0 win over Hungary.

While The Netherlands defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina 5-2.

-

And, Aryna Sabalenka has won her first US tennis Open title, after a straight-sets win over local favourite Jessica Pegula.
