Harry Kane needs to buck up to be match ready

Tottenham’s manager believes Harry Kane has a lot of work to do before he is match ready.

The forward was deemed not fit enough to start in this morning’s EPL opener against Manchester City, after only having two training sessions with the club.

Nuno Espirito Santo said Kane has been working hard in training, but will have to do more before he regains a spot on the first team.

Gerard Pique proud to support Barcelona’s financial problems

Gerard Pique says he is proud to take a pay cut as a gesture of support for cash-strapped Barcelona.

The club’s financial woes saw them part ways with Lionel Messi last week, with Pique succeeding Messi as first team captain.

Following Barca’s successful La Liga opener against Real Sociedad this morning, Pique confirmed fellow skippers Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto and Jordi Alba will join him in taking a pay cut.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is full of praise for Karim Benzema following their 4-1 win over Alaves.

Benzema scored twice in Real’s La Liga opener this morning – once in each half.

Ancelotti says his new skipper completes the team with his impressive ability to read the situation on the pitch.

The win also marked a victorious start to Ancelotti’s second spell in charge at the club.
