Alonso nearly penalised in last F1 race

Nov 26, 2018

The FIA says Fernando Alonso was lucky not to have been slapped with a major penalty, in his last-ever F1 race.

The McLaren driver had cut the track three times in the season-ending Abu Dhabi GP, in an attempt to finish the race in the top ten.

Race stewards added a total of 15 seconds to his race time over the offences, but ultimately, it did not affect his 11th-placed finish.

The FIA's racing director says theoretically, Alonso could have been disqualified for what he did, but it "wouldn't have been nice" to do so on his final outing.

Barcelona first to top £10m for average salaries

Barcelona are the first sports team in history, to pay ther first team players an average of over 10 million pounds a year.

That figure only covers the players' basic salary, and it doesn't include any bonuses or signing-on fees.

This, following Barca's new deal for Lionel Messi, as well as the arrival of high-profile players including Philippe Coutinho.

Real Madrid was second on the list, despite Cristiano Ronaldo's departure to Juventus.

NBA franchise Oklahoma City Thunder, who topped the list last year, are down to third.

Hazard to leave Chelsea in the summer?

Eden Hazard has dropped the biggest hint yet that he could leave Chelsea at the end of the season.

The Belgian insists he will not leave the club in January, but hasn't ruled out a move in the summer, if the right offer comes along.

Hazard, who has 18 months left on his contract, has been linked with both Real Madrid and PSG.

However, he stressed that he has no plan to play in the French league anytime soon.
