Benitez opens up about Newcastle departure

Jul 01, 2019

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has explained why he left the Magpies.

In an open letter to Newcastle fans, he said he wanted to sign a new contract.

However, Benitez says he was frustrated at owner, Mike Ashley's failure to invest in the players needed to take the club forward.

The Spaniard officially left Newcastle yesterday when his contract expired.

Manchester United have been given a boost in their bid to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

According to reports, this is after both Liverpool and Tottenham ended their interest in the player.

Fernandes has been linked with several top clubs after an impressive spell in Lisbon, averaging one goal a match last season.

The Portugal international is available for around 70 million pounds.

Ferrari will NOT appeal against the race stewards' decision, to allow Red Bull's Max Verstappen's win at the Austrian F1 GP to stand.

Verstappen had forced leader Charles Leclerc off the track, while he was trying to overtake the Ferrari driver and Verstappen went on to win the race.

Stewards reviewed the incident and found that neither driver were at fault.
