Malaysia: Asian Games progress

Aug 23, 2018

The Malaysian contingent has picked up its first gold medal at the Asian Games.

Esther Cheah, Siti Safiyah Amirah and Syaidatul Afifah delivered in the bowling women's trio event - which is the country's first gold medal in the event in 24 years.

Malaysia also picked up a silver medal via the men's sepaktakraw regu team, who lost to Thailand in the final.

This moves us up to 14th in the overall medals tally, with one gold, one silver and one bronze.

Elsewhere at the Games, Malaysia's men's 4x100m freestyle swimming quartet finished sixth in their final, but set a new national record along the way, with a time of 3 minutes 21.06 seconds.

Our men's hockey squad recorded their second straight victory in the group stage, beating Thailand 10-nil.

And, Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, Tan Ing Yueh and Tracie Ang finished sixth in the eight-team artistic gymnastics final.
