Tottenham crash out of Champions League at the hands of German side RB Leipzig

Mar 11, 2020

Tottenham's hopes for silverware this season are all but a dream, after falling to a heavy defeat to RB Leipzig in the Champions League last-16.

The German side came out 3-nil winners to reach the quarterfinals for the first time in their 10-year history, going through 4-nil on aggregate.

The result means boss Jose Mourinho has not reached the quarterfinals since 2014 with Chelsea.

Spurs, who have not won in six games in all competitions, will need to find some form if they are to be back in this tournament at all next season, and as it stands, they sit seven points behind the top four in the Premier League.

Elsewhere, Atalanta's Josip Ilicic scored four goals to lead them to a 4-3 win over Valencia, going through 8-4 on aggregate.

Serie A season may not finish amid coronavirus situation in Italy

The global COVID-19 pandemic is taking its toll on football, especially in Italy.

The Italian football federation has admitted that the Serie A season may not finish, due to the coronavirus outbreak there.

The news follows a government decree issued on Monday, that all sports in Italy will be suspended till April 3rd.

Alternative options have been suggested, including staging play-offs, not having a champion this season, or declaring the current standings final, but a final decision on the issue will only be made later this month.

As it stands, there are 12 matches still to be played, plus another four fixtures which have been postponed, and the second leg of the Coppa Italia semifinals.

MAF suggests more local meets to keep athletes on Olympic form

The Malaysian Athletics Federation has proposed to increase the number of locaI meets, as an alternative for national athletes to remain competitive.

This, as several events around the world are either being postponed or cancelled, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The MAF says the move is to ensure our athletes' performance remains at top level, in the mission to book slots at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
