WTA backs Serena's sexism claim

Sep 10, 2018

The WTA agrees with Serena Williams's claim that sexism played a role in the code violations she received during her US Open final defeat to Naomi Osaka.

Williams received three code violations during an emotion filled final - a code violation for coaching, a point penalty for racket abuse and a game penalty for calling the umpire a "thief".

The WTA says there are double standards when it comes to punishing female players for such outburts, and called on all players to be treated equally.
